Tips for Improving Fuel Efficiency

If the rising gas prices, have you down, then maybe you’re looking for some ways to improve your fuel economy numbers. At Serra Honda of Champaign, we know plenty of ways to make the most out of each gallon of gasoline, especially if you’re driving one of our fuel efficient cars.
Upgrade to a New Car
If it’s in the budget, upgrading to a new car might be a good way to reduce your fuel use. This is especially true if your car is much older and offers worse gas mileage than the typical new model.
Avoid Speeding
Going too much over the speed limit can actually affect your gas mileage. As the speedometer rises above 50 miles per hour, going faster and faster can push your engine harder and use up a lot more gas. Best to stick to the speed limit if you’re concerned about recent gas prices.
Don’t Skip Oil Changes
Fresh oil keeps your engine running efficiently and better protects all of its parts from damage. Putting off that oil change can cause your engine to burn excess gas, costing you money. So always make sure that you’re keeping up on routine maintenance at our Honda service center.
Check the Tire Pressure
Your tires actually affect your gas mileage. When any of them are under-inflated, your fuel economy is sure to take a hit. Make sure that you know the proper psi for your tires and that you have a tire pressure gauge that you can use to check them occasionally.
Get Rid of Excess Cargo
If you have a bunch of extra stuff in your car, that’s adding weight. Added weight means that you need more fuel to get from point A to point B. If you don’t need something in your car, don’t keep it in there.
