Honda Tires: Repair or Replace Them?

September 6th, 2022 by

The skilled technicians here at Serra Honda of Champaign Tire Center are more than capable of handling a Honda tire repair job, but sometimes that’s not your best option. At our service center, we can help you figure out when it’s better to repair your tires and when it’s simply time to replace them with new ones.

Here are some of the factors we’ll consider when you visit our service center with tire troubles.

The Type of Tire Damage

Some types of tire damage are easy to fix. A small puncture can be fixed, as can a bad valve stem that causes a leak. A quick trip to the Serra Honda Tire center can get your tires back into top shape in no time.

However, some types of damage are too big to repair. A puncture or split that stretches for more than a quarter of an inch can be difficult to fix. A crack or split in the sidewall of the tire is usually a sign that it’s time for new tires as well.

How Many Tire Repairs Have Already Been Done

In some cases, it can be difficult to repair tires that have already been repaired multiple times. If the new source of damage is close to a puncture that was fixed previously, fixing it and stopping the tire from leaking might not be a possibility.

Your Tire Tread Depth

Once the tread on your tires is worn down, they no longer provide the traction you need to stay safe on the road. Before you repair a tire, check the tread depth with an upside-down penny. If you can see Abe’s whole head, the tread depth is too shallow. You’re better off buying new tires and having our mechanics install them for you.

Whether you need brand new tires or you just require a tire rotation, the experts at our Honda service center in Champaign, IL are ready to assist you. Schedule an appointment today!
