Our service center here at Serra Honda of Champaign employs highly-trained service professionals who are ready to handle all your maintenance needs. Oil changes are central to your car’s long-term health, but what about your Honda hybrid? Does its oil also need to be changed?

Read on for an overview of how often your Honda hybrid needs an oil change and other types of maintenance.

Lower-Mileage Maintenance

Your Honda may be a hybrid, but it still needs regular service. Here are some service tasks you should perform every 5,000 miles:

  • Oil and coolant top-offs
  • Transmission, brake, and windshield wiper fluid fill-ups
  • Light and mechanical inspections

Hybrid Oil Change Schedule

Yes, a Honda hybrid requires an oil change, but the maintenance schedule is different for a hybrid than for a gas-only vehicle.

When you reach 30,000 miles, you will need to change the oil in your hybrid. That averages out to roughly once per year. Here are some additional maintenance tasks to tackle every 30,000 to 60,000 miles:

  • Oil filter replacements
  • Brake checks
  • Tire rotations
  • Suspension and exhaust tuneups
  • Hoses and brake line inspections

Additional Service Tasks

Once you’ve reached over 30,000 miles, you’ll enter the replacement phase. Keep an eye on your engine and keep up with regular maintenance.

Next up is your 60,000-mile service mark, which is the repair-and-replace-oriented phase of your Honda hybrid’s life. At this point, you’ll go beyond oil changes and need to:

  • Replace spark plugs
  • Change transmission fluid
  • Replace drive belts
  • Change brake fluid
  • Replace water pump

Like any car, your Honda hybrid needs consistent maintenance. Schedule a Honda service appointment at Serra Honda at Champaign to stay on top of essential maintenance. We look forward to working with you soon!
