5 Reasons Your Honda Won’t Start

February 10th, 2022 by

You never know what’s going to happen with your vehicle. Serra Honda of Champaign is always here to handle any of your Honda service needs, but what about unforeseen circumstances?

For example, what do you do when you get the behind the wheel of your Honda, only to find out that your engine won’t turn over? What could be the problem? Here are five possible reasons your Honda won’t start.

1. Battery Issues

The number one reason your Honda won’t start is likely the battery. There are many issues that can cause a battery to die, such as corrosion around the connections, bad wiring, or simply age.

If a jump-start won’t fix this issue, it may be time to get your battery replaced.

2. Bad Alternator

Your next culprit could be the alternator. Your car’s alternator is a crucial part of its engine system, as it generates the electricity needed to charge the battery. It also powers the electrical system while it’s running and gives the starter a jolt to kick over the engine.

If your alternator goes bad, it won’t be able to charge your battery or start your car.

3. Bad Starter

Your starter is the motor that actually starts your engine. The average life of a starter is about 100,000 to 150,000 miles. It can break down early under certain conditions, which is why it helps to have it checked often.

4. Weak Key Fob Battery

This may seem obvious, but it can easily be overlooked. If your key fob battery is losing power, you won’t be able to start the car if you have a push-button starter (like most newer models). Hold the fob close to the button and test it. If nothing happens, it may be time to get a new fob battery.

5. Clogged Fuel Filter

Your fuel filter can get clogged by dirt and grime over time. If it becomes too dirty and clogged, your engine will not be able to run at full capacity, or it might not start at all. Have it checked and replaced as needed.
